Hi all,

I annotated my methylation data (Illumina 850K beadchip) according to Ensembl version 75. The following gene sections are linked to the probes:

  • Promoter
  • 5'UTR
  • CDS
  • Intron
  • 3'UTR
  • Non-coding
  • Intergenic

I was wandering...Non-coding regions are within introns or intergenic regions. Why is this a different category then? What does "non-coding" represent?

Thanks in advance!

Sara

You need to be more explicit. The only 850k beadchip I know of is the Cyto-SNP 850, which isn't a methylation array. Perhaps you mean the EPIC? Also, what do you mean by 'I annotated my methylation data'? How? Using what package? Is this even a Bioconductor question?

Do note that Non-coding is not likely to refer to DNA, but instead to a type of RNA that doesn't get translated to protein, which would more accurately be described as Untranslated. But it is relatively common to call things like miRNA, snoRNA, lncRNA, etc 'Non-coding'.
