Hi, I was doing QC of ~200 hgu-133a chip, but it runs out of memory, I used the lowest priority with nice, is there another trick to use in linux (excluding ulimit that kill process)? Here they are the spec of my server (2 processors) vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 15 model : 5 model name : AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 248 stepping : 10 cpu MHz : 2190.480 cache size : 1024 KB fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext lm 3dnowext 3dnow bogomips : 4384.18 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 40 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts fid vid ttp ______________________________________________________________________ ______________Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links.

Yes, you can use a web browser to find a website to order more RAM ;-) nice has to do with scheduling priority on the CPU, not with memory use. You've given us details on your CPU, but I think the output of free will tell you how much RAM is installed on the system and that is the critical issue here. + seth -- Seth Falcon | Computational Biology | Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center http://bioconductor.org
