Kind regards, Julie GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Bioinformatician/Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, evaluation and iterative modification of a technical infrastructure to expedite the quantitative evaluation of data resulting from studies that are laboratory based. The position will implement and maintain applicable in-house bioinformatics resources and interact with individual research groups on customized research projects. The position will facilitate the rapid translation of computational approaches of research to the bench. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Generate customized programming solutions including building web based database applications to improve user interaction with available bioinformatics resources. ? Adoption and implementation of programs for ChIP-seq, ChIP- chip, microarray analysis, cis regulatory motif identification and multi- genome protein motif searches. ? Local establishment and customization of model organism genomic databases (e.g. ENSEMBL) and tools for batch sequence analysis utilizing these resources. ? Perform other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ? BS in computer science, bioinformatics or a related discipline with at least 2 years related experience, or equivalent. ? Experience with general programming language such as Python, Perl, C/C++, R, Java, php, etc. ? A thorough understanding of database application development using an SQL-compliant database such as MySQL and Oracle. ? A clear understanding of the concepts involved in building distributed web-based database applications; and an interest in distributed data exchange and workload architectures such as web services. ? Experience in writing basic search algorithms and the ability to generate new algorithms and programs for custom data manipulation and analysis ? Self-motivated and excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a wide range of individuals on problems related to data handling, analysis, data interpretation, and system design and software development. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BUT NOT REQUIRED: ? Experience with R/Bioconductor ?
