Hi Kishor, rtracklayer defines an API that is documented under class?BrowserSession and class?BrowserView. Each backend/plugin should implement the API as completely as possible (it is not required to implement every feature). You'll want to look at browser.R to get a better understanding of what needs to be implemented (there are some fallbacks). And ucsc.R provides a relatively complete example of a backend. The last I looked at GBrowse, it was not very amenable to an interface, because it did not have the ability to query directly for session state, like UCSC supports. Anyway, something should be possible. Please let me know if you need any pointers.
