This would seem to be an FAQ but I can't find an answer to it.  There are a handful of tags that I'd like to / be willing to receive emails about, since I don't necessarily want to check a bulletin board very often.  However, I can't figure out how to do that.  Suppose I wanted to get an email when someone tags something as 'methylumi' or 'lncRNA'.  How do I do that?

Everything in the 'help' and 'FAQ' sections seems to lead in a circle, at the moment.

Click on your name at the top of the page,

click Edit Profile

Enter the packages you are interested in into the Watched Tags box.

Hit submit.

Profit.

Click on your name to go to your profile page, select 'Profile setting' and the relevant fields are 'My tags' and 'Watched tags'. Use the latter to get an email when a new post matching one of your watched tag is posted.

Hope this helps.

Laurent

thanks all.  one last question, why is the "my tags" field separate from the "watched tags" field?  Historical reasons I suppose.

Anyways, thanks again.

yes, historical reasons as the different features were added at different times. We will merge the two concepts in the new release of Biostar.

They do different things. My Tags  just compiles a list of tags whose posts you see when you click on My Tags (at the very top, there's a line that starts with "My:" and a little bit to the right there is a 'tags' link; this is not to be confused with the uppercase TAGS link to the right of the Bioc logo).  So those are for tags whose posts you want to see collected in one place but you don't necessarily want to know about all those posts via email, that's what Watched Tags is for.

BTW, this is in the faq at https://support.bioconductor.org/info/faq/#track_topics.

Dan
