VACATION STUDENTSHIP IN DATA SCIENCE Project 1 – ref SS/P1

Applications are invited for a summer vacation studentship in the Samarajiwa lab based at the MRC Cancer Unit. The MRC Cancer Unit is both a core-funded Unit of the UK Medical Research Council, as well as an academic department of the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge. The Samarajiwa lab (Systems Biomedicine Group http://www.mrc-cu.cam.ac.uk/samarajiwa.html ) utilises big datasets and computational biology approaches to understand processes and systems contributing to cancer formation and progression. There are a number of projects available that utilise data science approaches to understand complex systems involved in genome and epigenome regulation in carcinogenesis. The candidate should be a 2nd / 3rd or final year student in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Computational Biology with excellent programming skills (in any of: C/C+, Python or R) with an interest in leading-edge cancer research. Machine learning / Deep Learning experience and skills advantageous. Knowledge of biology not required. You will be provided with up to £2,160 to support your living costs (£180 per week for up to 12 weeks). If you have any queries, or would like more information, please contact Shamith at ss861@mrc-cu.cam.ac.uk Please include a covering letter and CV, quoting the reference number (ref SS/P1) of the relevant project, and email this to: admin@mrc-cu.cam.ac.uk by 30th April 2017.
