Regards, Simon Cawley, Manager, Algorithms & Data Analysis. ------------------------ PERSONNEL REQUISITION (Full time regular appointment) Job Title: Data Analyst Department: Algorithms & Data Analysis Reports To: Manager, Algorithms & Data Analysis Contact: Debi_Higgs at affymetrix.com DESCRIPTION We have an exciting opportunity in the Algorithms and Data Analysis group focused on the development of analysis approaches in the nascent field of microarray-based exploration of chromosomal rearrangement. The near-term focus of the job is on analysis development and support for chromosome copy number estimation and mapping of LOH regions but longer term work will encompass analysis of other microarray applications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Development and assessment of analysis methods for solving real- world biological problems. * Implementation of analysis techniques in prototype software which can be used in research and product development and which can be later handed over to software engineers for integration into commercial product. * Participation as the data analysis representative in project teams for development of novel products. * Communication of analytical approaches and results to expert audiences at internal and external scientific meetings. * Working closely with other Affymetrix departments including advanced research, product development, software development, marketing and legal. JOB REQUIREMENTS To qualify, you should have a masters or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or a Physical science, with a firm background in applied data analysis. You should have advanced programming skills in * C++ * One of R, S, Splus or Matlab * Perl Other requirements are excellent communication skills, strong initiative and demonstrated ability to take ownership of challenging problems. Experience in analysis of microarray data considered a strong plus, as is experience with other genomic technologies.
