At the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany’s largest biomedical research institute, computational scientists work at the forefront of cancer research. They combine interdisciplinary approaches from physics, biology, bioinformatics and statistics to analyze and understand complex biological and medical data.
Main activities at the DKFZ involving big data:
- Development and application of computational methods for the integrative analysis of genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic and radiomic data
- Development of methods for modeling and simulation of biological and medical processes
- DNA mutation analysis by next-generation DNA sequencing of individual human cancer genomes
- Application of state-of-the-art technologies in automated live-cell imaging and image analysis
- Computer-assisted radiology and surgery
- Biostatistical evaluation of experimental and clinical data
- Integration and development of new methods for systems biology and systems medicine
