As a Principal Scientist Computational Biology you identify novel putative targets by cutting edge in silico analyses, strengthen new therapeutic concepts and identify biomarkers in the area of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g. retinopathies, NASH, obesity), using leading edge computational methods to drive faster, improved decision making, ultimately developing impactful therapies for our patients. You like the challenge of building a convincing line of reasoning to go from in-silico predictions to experimental validation. In addition, you are passionate for drug discovery, experienced in implementing disruptive ideas into an organization and take advantage of data-driven digital innovation.
Embedded in BI’s growing Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences Unit you will have an impact on reinventing R&D, thereby actively contributing to the discovery of breakthrough therapies that ultimately will improve the quality of human life.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Together with the therapeutic area, you will conceive and direct the implementation of data-driven solutions to support target identification, target-driven research and presentation of results to your stakeholders and the TA and GCBDS management board.
- In your new role, you work with data from multiple domains, such as transcriptomics (RNAseq, scRNAseq) or genetics using established and innovative methods.
- You contribute to projects during all phases - from experimental design to downstream analysis in interdisciplinary teams.
- Furthermore, you establish and develop new analysis strategies in the field of omics data, network biology and machine learning aiming to push boundaries in drug discovery.
Requirements
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or systems biology research or similar with strong quantitative focus and excellent programming skills. Alternatively master’s degree with long-term professional experience
- In-depth knowledge and broad spectrum in bioinformatics and computational biology with a focus on omics data
- Deep knowledge in R/Bioconductor (preferred) or Python and solid background in statistics and experimental design
- Previous projects in cardiometabolic indications are desirable
- Highly motivated Team player with excellent organization and communication skills Fluency in English writing and speaking
