Hi All I am using getGEO to retrieve data from GEO. Can I just obtain the metadata only, ie not download the expression data. I wish to obtain a subset of one of the large studies. Therefore, I want to search the metadata to determine which subset of GSM files I need, and then just download that subset of cel files. Thanks a million Aedin (PS I did try to find this answer in the help files, I apologize if I missed it)

We have packaged all of the GEO metadata into the GEOmetadb package. You might start there. Sean [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Brilliant, this is perfect. What is the build (update) schedule of GEOmetadb? weekly/monthly/quaterly etc Thanks Aedin On 11/08/2010 12:32 PM, Sean Davis wrote: > > > On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 12:29 PM, aedin culhane <aedin at="" jimmy.harvard.edu=""> <mailto:aedin at="" jimmy.harvard.edu="">> wrote: > > Hi All > I am using getGEO to retrieve data from GEO. We have gone the route of distributing the code _only_ in the GEOmetadb package. The data are distributed as a separate SQLite file which, incidentally, can be used external to the package. In any case, when you use getSQLiteFile() function in GEOmetadb, you will be greeted with the schema version and creation timestamp of the SQLite file. To answer your question directly, the SQLite file is rebuilt weekly (currently Saturdays).
