GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
The Genetic Epidemiology group at the Channing Laboratory of Brigham
and Women???s Hospital continues to do cutting edge research in the
genetics of complex airways diseases, including asthma and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease. We are currently seeking a Scientific
Data Curator to create, support and maintain several data formats /
sets for translational research.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with human genetics researchers and investigators,
technical managers, programmers and molecular laboratories from
Harvard Medical School, Channing Laboratory, and External
Collaborators perform the following:
??? Develop and manage development of the specification documents for
database tables, data entry screens, data derivations and edit check
programming;
??? Complete and manage testing of database and edit checks;
??? Interface with the user and/or sites and monitors as needed to
manage the data collection and cleaning;
??? Ensure databases are validated and ready for transfer and/or
analyses
Report progress against schedules to management as appropriate;
??? Generate Reports for Principle Investigator or Project Manager; To
ensure completion of assignments within established timelines.
Requirements:
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
??? Programming experience using Oracle and LIMS systems, MS Access,
PL.SQL, SQL Plus, or SAS.
??? Working knowledge of at least one industry-relevant relational
database application, Oracle preferred.
??? Ability to work in a Linux environment
??? Outstanding analytical skills
??? Knowledge of programming languages Java, Python, Perl
??? Attention to detail and creativity in problem-solving.
??? Ability to work in a team and to communicate in a clear way to
provide training to staff and faculty.
