Position: Computational biology & bioinformatics staff scientist Institutions: Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA Department: Center for Computational Discovery at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center; Sridhar Ramaswamy, Director Salary: Commensurate with level of experience Status: Full-time A staff scientist positions is available for a highly qualified expert in computational biology and bioinformatics in the Center for Computational Discovery (CCD) at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and Harvard Medical School. The CCD collaborates with laboratories in the Cancer Center of the Massachusetts General Hospital to take high-throughput approaches (e.g., next generation sequencing, microarray, functional screening, imaging) to answer applied and fundamental questions in cancer biology and medicine. This position will focus (at least initially) on projects studying circulating tumor cells. Responsibilities will include: · Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to design experiments · Analyzing the output of high-throughput runs for quality and biological meaning · Contributing to the publication of results · Developing and publishing new analytical methods, where needed · Contributing to the CCD’s software libraries, which are written in R, C/C++, Python and SQL Experiments include (but are not limited to): · ChIP-seq · RNA-seq · Digital gene expression · Whole exome re-sequencing · Whole genome re-sequencing Minimal qualifications: · 2+ years of post-doctoral work in computational biology and bioinformatics · Experience with a statistical programming language (e.g., Matlab, R) · Excellent teamwork/collaboration and interpersonal skills · Proficiency in written and spoken English · Good communication skills Preferred qualifications: · Experience analyzing next generation sequencing data · Experience with a general programming language (e.g., Java, C/C++), a scripting language (e.g., Perl, Python) and SQL · Experience with cluster computing · Formal education in biology, statistics and computer science · Experience with multi-person software development The position is open for immediate filling.
