Dear all, this problem has been issued before but with different error messages. I have already installed the recommended package libxml-dev and still get this message R CMD INSTALL XML_0.97-0.tar.gz * Installing *source* package 'XML' ... checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for gcc option to accept ANSI C... none needed checking how to run the C preprocessor... gcc -E checking for xml2-config... no Cannot find xml2-config ERROR: configuration failed for package 'XML' I am apparently missing something, any suggestions what else I should install before XML? I am running Debian 2.6.8-2-386 (testing) and R 2.0.1 (installed with the apt-get command, r-base and r-recommended) Thanks in advance, Anja Schiel -- Anja E. The package is called libxml2-dev. Apparently there's yet another version mess... BTW, I think the XML package is not part of Bioconductor... Best regards, Jan -- +- Jan T.
