Postdoctoral position for 'Statistical Methods in Bioinformatics' Max-Planck-Institute for Informatics, Saarbruecken, Germany The Max-Planck-Society (MPG) is the premier basic research branch in Germany. The Max-Planck Institute for Informatics is devoted to Computer Science and Information Technology. In 2001 the institute established a Computational Biology research division under the direction of Prof. Dr. Thomas Lengauer, Ph.D. Current research activities directed by Prof. Lengauer include the areas of medical bioinformatics, with a focus on HIV, HCV, and polygenic diseases, prediction and analysis of protein structures, analysis of protein-ligand interactions (molecular docking), comparison of drug molecules, and analysis of mRNA expression data. In addition, newly established research fields in the division include functional prediction of proteins based on genomics and proteomics data as well as analysis of protein-protein interactions, genetic variation and epigenomics. Research will continue to span new computational methods as well as innovation in biology and medicine. The Computational Biology research division at the Max-Planck Institute for Informatics is a partner in a larger Computational Biology Center in Saarbr?cken (http://www.zbi.uni-saarland.de), together with groups from the University of the Saarland, where several curricula in Computational Biology are being offered. Furthermore, the Research Division cooperates with other Max-Planck Institutes, notably in the areas of Biology and Medicine as well as with Universities, Genome Centers, and pharmaceutical and biotech industry. The Computational Biology group offers an interdisciplinary research environment with exciting challenges on novel biological data and leading-edge expertise in one of today's most dynamic scientific disciplines. We are looking for people that are highly qualified and motivated to join our interdisciplinary team. We are offering the position of a postdoctoral researcher for statistical methods in bioinformatics. A strong background in applied statistics or statistical learning is required. Applicants should have extensive experience in one or several of the following research areas: statistical analysis of expression data, statistical analysis of protein interaction data, statistical methods supporting the prediction of protein function, biostatistics, statistical genetics. Expertise in programming and knowledge in algorithms is desired. The candidate should have strong interest in interdisciplinary research. The position requires an internationally competitive research record in computational biology, applied statistics, or statistical learning. Applications should include the usual information such as curriculum vitae, motivation letter, copies of certificates, a list of publications and email of two or three references. Please refer to 'postdoc in statistical bioinformatics' in your application. The Max-Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer. Qualifications being equal, precedence will be given to candidates with disabilities. Timeframe: As soon as possible.
