Two Research Associates Computational biology / bioinformatics and small RNAs Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge, UK Salary: ?25,134-?32,796 (rising to ?25,888-?33,780 on 1 May 2008) Limit of tenure: funds are available for two years in the first instance Professor Baulcombe?s laboratory is at the forefront of research into small RNAs and their role in regulation and development. His group is generating a wealth of data using high throughput sequencing, as well using genetic and cell biology approaches. There is a particular interest in developing methods for the analysis of large databases of siRNAs and miRNAs in Arabidopsis, Chlamydomonas, tomato and other plants, and for modelling the behaviour of small RNA systems and their effect on gene silencing at the RNA and DNA level. Within the laboratory, Krys Kelly is setting up a computational biology group, where bench science will be closely linked to computational approaches. We are looking for talented individuals who are passionate about using their quantitative and computational skills to make advances in biology. One position may suit a biologist with strong programming skills, the other a statistician, mathematician or computer scientist with a real interest in biology. You should have a higher degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with strong quantitative and/or programming skills and a good knowledge of biology. Individuals with a masters degree in a subject such as bioinformatics will be considered for a position at the Research Assistant level. For further information please see the departmental website at http://www.plantsci.cam.ac.uk/ and feel free to contact Dr Krys Kelly (Email: kak28 at cam.ac.uk; Mobile: 07812 891 105). Further particulars can be requested from Mrs Catherine Butler (cek31 at cam.ac.uk). To apply please send a covering letter, curriculum vitae, a PD18 application form, and the names and contact details (including email addresses) of 3 referees to Mrs Butler, either by email or by post (Department Administrator, Department of Plant Sciences, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3EA).
