Greetings, I am wondering if someone knows a source of obtaining a list of the human tissue specific genes (ie. brain, liver, lung, etc.)? Is there a database of this sort to get the most recent list or any list? Thanks, Lana

You could try the Stanford SOURCE tool: http://source.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/source/sourceSearch/ with a search term like: *brain* Regards, James

You can use NCBI's library browser and 'digital differential expression': http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/UniGene/info_ddd.html Floor Stam On 2 Aug 2004 , at 7:17, Lana Schaffer wrote: > Greetings, > I am wondering if someone knows a source of obtaining a list of the > human tissue > specific genes (ie. brain, liver, lung, etc.)? Lana, You could look at making one using the GNF expression atlas (available via GEO, which you can access directly from R using AnnBuilder). Data is available for 79 human tissues in duplicate on Affy arrays (hgu133a). Furthermore, some tissues are represented more than just in duplicate (Brain is composed of pons, corpus callosum, frontal cortex, etc.). I'm not sure how good the data is, but for "clustering" or the like, it is probably adequate.
