Description

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Harvard Medical School is looking for a Research Fellow to help us build cutting edge research platforms. We seek an individual to work on our multidisciplinary team of data scientists, medical doctors, and developers. Our team studies large and disparate datasets from the domains of biology, healthcare and social media. The goal of our efforts is to transform healthcare and research to usher in a new age of individualized data driven medicine.

 

The Research Fellow will be responsible for developing novel methodologies and applications to help visual causal relationships in bioinformatics data sets. The diversity of subject matter will require a creative mind and a candidate capable of deploying imaginative strategies and who is dedicated to solving complex and challenging problems within an interdisciplinary environment.

 

Specific responsibilities for this position include

  • Work to understand data about causal relationships in order to develop visualizations.
  • Create prototypes for visualizations and work with software professionals to integrate the work into an existing platform.
  • Perform novel research on bioinformatics data sets and publish any findings.

 

Basic Requirements: PhD degree (or MD/PhD.) in Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; Curriculum in and/or experience with demonstrated ability to extract insight from large volumes of data using data mining and the creation of effective visualization techniques; Experience in programming and software development; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Additional Requirements: Experience with user interaction design; JavaScript; D3 visualization library (Or similar); Data mining; R, Python, and/or Perl is desirable.
