DATA SCIENCE CLUSTER

POSITION: As part of the Data Science Cluster hiring, we are seeking a Genome Data Scientist working in the area of large-scale computational genome biology. Key areas of specialization include: (1) comparative genomics/proteomics; (2) epigenetics, (3) population genetics, (4) network biology, and (5) method development for analyzing next generation sequencing data.

TITLE/RANK: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Appointment and salary will be competitive and commensurate with accomplishments. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

The Data Science Cluster is hiring for three positions this year, in the following areas respectively: (i) Genome Data Science, (ii) Statistical Approaches to Big Data and (iii) Big Data in Astronomy. The successful candidate for the Genome Data Science position will hold an academic appointment in a life science department within the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) at the Universiity of California, Riverside (UCR) with the option of a secondary cooperating faculty appointment in a quantitative department such as statistics, computer science, engineering or related. The candidate will also join UCR’s Data Science Center and the Institute for Integrative Genome Biology (IIGB). Both connect theoretical and experimental researchers from different departments including state-of-the art Instrumentation Facilities offering advanced tools in next generation sequencing, proteomics and high-throughput screening. A modern Research Computing facility is part of this infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in a field related to Genome Data Science is required at the time of service including several years of postdoctoral research.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates are expected to have excellent publication and research records in Genome Data Science or related areas, such as bioinformatics or computational genome biology. The candidate’s research program should be heavily focused on involving modern high-throughput data, especially from next generation sequencing technologies. An additional requirement is a strong commitment to teaching in Genome Data Science.
