I'm wondering what the state of the art is and what the experiences of the people on this forum are with respect to image viewers (with basic functionality such as zoom, move, selection of different color channels) via a Shiny app?

In particular, I am thinking of multiplexed immunohistochemistry slides such as from CODEX/Akoya, with, say 15000 x 2000 pixels and >50 color channels (i.e. a single image can have several Gigabytes and there may be many of them). I assume one needs a server with a large memory that can hold all the images in RAM in order to achieve decent responsiveness...
