i am also not able to use other packages (eg airway) of bioconductor with this version of R. 

Version 3.4, the version you have installed and the most recent 'release' version of Bioconductor, works with R version 3.3.2.

You were able to install airway (see A: not able to install bioconductor packages!) with this version of Bioconductor, so you are mis-diagnosing your problem.
