Thanks very much for the help. I downloaded the Tcl/tk library and pointed an environment variable to the installed library using the command Sys.putenv("TCL_LIBRARY"="c:/Tcl/lib/tcl8.3") I again then tried to load some affy files and the GUI popped up although the whole program crashed before I could load any data. I re-opened R, re-pointed the environment variable to the TCL LIBRARY, loaded the affy library again and tried to load some affy files but this time I got the following message: Loading required package:tkWidgets Loading required package: tcltk Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)): unable to load shared library "C:/PROGRA~1/R/rw1062/library/tcltk/libs/tcltk.dll": LoadLibrary failure: The specified module could not be found. Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos): tcl/tk package 'tcltk' not available -- forget about 'tkWidgets'! However, I checked to see if tcltk.dll was in this pathway and it was. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? My guess (which is really just that, I'm not very familiar w/ Windows) is that your Tcl install is somehow broken. This is really a R issue rather than a Bioconductor issue, and you'll probably get much better answers (more eyes, and those eyes generally have more knowledge on these sorts of things) by asking the R-help list: https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help -J

this is just a guess too: which version of tcl did you install? version 8.4 or 8.3.x. 8.4 wont work. it has to be 8.3.x (x meaing any number) On Thu, 6 Mar 2003, Jeff Gentry wrote: > > Loading required package:tkWidgets > > Loading required package: tcltk > > Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)): > > unable to load shared library "C:/PROGRA~1/R/rw1062/library/tcltk/libs/tcltk.dll": > > LoadLibrary failure: The specified module could not be found. > > Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos): tcl/tk package 'tcltk' not available -- forget about > > 'tkWidgets'! > > > > However, I checked to see if tcltk.dll was in this pathway and it was. > > > > Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? > > My guess (which is really just that, I'm not very familiar w/ Windows) is > that your Tcl install is somehow broken. > > This is really a R issue rather than a Bioconductor issue, and you'll > probably get much better answers (more eyes, and those eyes generally have > more knowledge on these sorts of things) by asking the R-help list: > https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help > > -J > > _______________________________________________ > Bioconductor mailing list > Bioconductor@stat.math.ethz.ch > https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/bioconductor >
