Description

As a bioinformatics scientist you will be a member of the Scientific Bioinformatics Platform and report to the head of the platform, Dr. Altuna Akalin. You will be responsible for data analysis and method development for genomics data sets including but not limited to high-throughput sequencing datasets. You will be interacting and collaborating with BIMSB research groups and external collaborators within defined national and international consortiums, as well as supporting research in computational epigenomics, gene regulation and disease genomics within the platform.


Requirements

Applicants should have PhD degree in computational genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or equivalent. We are looking for talented researchers with a proven track record in bioinformatics, specifically in computational genomics. However, applicants who have strong background in statistics and programming (e.g. PhD in statistics with relevant publications) are also welcome to apply and will be given special consideration, even though they do not have much experience in bioinformatics. The ideal candidate should have excellent programming skills for data analysis preferably in R and in one of the scripting languages such as Perl/Python. In addition, experience in C/C++ would be beneficial and highly desirable. Statistics and machine learning course work and/or demonstrated application of those in previous research is also necessary. Experience and/or interest in database technologies (SQL and/or noSQL) and traditional high­ performance computing clusters would be a plus. 

The candidate should be familiar with fundamentals of molecular biology and fluent in spoken and written English. The technical expertise is complemented by essential soft skills, the ability to communicate and work in teams, flexibility and targeted action.

Salary

Remuneration is according to the German TVöD (Bund/Ost) scale(E13)
